Nest Labs Samsung, owned by Google, and five other companies have joined forces to create the Discussion Group, which will focus on the development of a new protocol without wire network for smart homes. Discussion uses both radio frequency and the same chips as Zigbee, a wireless technology based on standards used by products such as Hue Phillips customizable LED bulbs. It can connect more than 250 devices with low power, mesh network with Internet access and cloud. The new protocol is designed to answer some of the issues present in the competition, including the lack of interoperability, high power requirements, and hardware dependencies.
